'Unlocking the gates to a lifelong love of learning and faithfulness'
We are a small village school at the heart of the Gringley-on-the-Hill community, where children are known, valued, and cared for every day.
At St. Peter’s, our shared values guide everything we do and shape the decisions we make as a school community. They support every child to grow into the very best version of themselves, within a calm, caring, and inclusive environment where everyone belongs.
Care sits at the centre of life at St. Peter’s. We take care of ourselves, take care of others, take care of our community and the wider world, and take care of our work. These values are lived out daily through our relationships, our learning, and our shared experiences.
St. Peter’s is often described as a family. Staff, pupils, parents, governors, and the local community work closely together to create a welcoming school where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.
Our children are at the heart of every decision we make. From the stories and books we share, to the visits, experiences, and sporting opportunities we provide, our curriculum is designed to be engaging, inclusive, and inspiring.
Children are given time to reflect, ask questions, and develop an understanding of themselves and the world around them. We encourage curiosity, empathy, and respect for different beliefs and viewpoints, helping children grow both academically and personally.
We have high expectations for all our pupils and are committed to helping every child succeed, whatever their starting point. Children are encouraged to take pride in their work, show resilience when learning is challenging, and treat others with kindness and fairness.
Our aim is for children to leave St. Peter’s well-prepared for the next stage of their education, as confident, kind, and thoughtful individuals who believe in themselves, recognise the value of others, and feel a sense of responsibility towards their community and the wider world.
We value positive, trusting relationships with families and believe children do best when school and homework together. We aim to communicate clearly, listen carefully, and offer support with understanding and care.
Whether you are already part of our school community or considering Saint Peter’s for your child, you will be warmly welcomed.
St. Peter’s welcomes boys and girls aged 3–11. We provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is known as an individual and supported to flourish from their earliest years.
Our Pupil Admission Number (PAN) is 12, which allows us to build strong relationships, know our children well, and tailor learning carefully to meet individual needs.
Our Early Years provision includes Nursery and Reception, where children are supported to settle quickly, feel safe, and develop a love of learning.
Learning in the Early Years is carefully planned around the EYFS framework and is shaped by children’s interests, next steps, and developmental needs. Through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences, children develop the foundations they need to succeed both in school and in life.
We place a strong emphasis on:
Communication and language
Personal, social, and emotional development
Physical development
These prime areas are prioritised so that children gain confidence, independence, and the skills needed to access all areas of learning.
Children are taught in the following mixed-age classes:
Foundation Stage 1 & 2 – Nursery and Reception
Class One – Years 1 and 2
Class Two – Years 3 and 4
Class Three – Years 5 and 6
Strong transition arrangements ensure children move smoothly from Early Years into Key Stage 1, building securely on what they already know and can do.
St. Peter’s benefits from extensive school grounds, which are used purposefully to support learning and development, particularly in the Early Years.
Children have regular access to outdoor learning opportunities that support:
Physical development and coordination
Language development through talk and play
Curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving
Our outdoor spaces include:
A playground and large playing field
Sensory garden and nature kitchen
Musical garden
Climbing wall and trim-trail with a playhouse
Running track
Outdoor learning is carefully planned to complement indoor provision and support children to apply skills in different contexts.
In the Early Years, children learn through a balance of child-initiated play and adult-guided activities. Adults observe carefully, interact purposefully, and extend learning through well-timed questions, modelling, and support.
Across the school, learning is enriched through visits, visitors, and hands-on experiences that help children make sense of the world around them and build cultural understanding.
We have high expectations for all children, including our youngest learners. Staff carefully assess children’s starting points and plan learning that supports progress over time.
Additional support is put in place where needed so that all children, including those who may need extra help, can access learning fully and make good progress.
By the end of Reception, children are well-prepared for the next stage of their education, with secure foundations in learning, behaviour, and independence.
Strong partnerships with parents and carers are central to our Early Years provision. We recognise parents as children’s first educators and value regular communication and shared understanding of each child’s development.
Parents are warmly invited to take part in school life, including:
Stay-and-play sessions and workshops
Class assemblies and performances
Learning walks
Sports days
Parent–teacher consultation evenings
