Summer Term 2026
We are having a very busy time in Class 2!
Residential Visit to Hathersage
The children had a fantastic time on their residential visit to Hathersage. They thoroughly enjoyed taking part in all the activities – swimming, stream-dipping, visiting Eyam to learn about the plague, and Peak Cavern. The best part, however (according to the children!), was being with their friends in their bedrooms!
History
In History, we have been learning about the Romans and the Roman Empire. The children have been so enthusiastic about this topic and have really enjoyed learning about how the Romans took control of Britain and how Britain then changed under Roman rule.
KS2 Production
For our KS2 production this year, we are showcasing 'The Greatest Show'–a musical that takes the audience on a vibrant, wild-west - meets - Victorian - steampunk adventure. It centres on the eccentric Colonel Obadiah Blastpipe, who plans to build "The Great Steampunk Spectacular". To achieve his goal, he attempts to sabotage the rival Professor Pickle's circus, which features fascinating acts like singing cats and performing fleas.
We are looking forward to the performance – 17th July at 1:30pm or 6:30pm! Please come and watch us!
Art and Design
This term we have started a unit on 3D art. We looked at the idea of relief - raising shapes above a flat surface so they stand out and created gesso – a combination of glue and plaster of Paris – to create small sculptures, thinking carefully about the objects used to create a range of textures, forms and heights.
Spring Term 2026
Litter Pick
Class 2 went on a litter pick around Gringley-on-the-Hill as part of their RE charity project.
They were fantastic at spotting rubbish and had a blast helping to clean up our local area.
Young Voices 2026
What an amazing day we had! The children were fantastic and represented St Peter's impeccably. As part of a 5,000-strong children's choir, they sang and danced their hearts out all day.
We had the great privilege of singing alongside incredible performers, including Harriet Rose, a former Young Voices pupil, who I am sure inspired our children to believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. The children were also thrilled to have the opportunity to dance with Urban Strides, who aim to inspire young people through the power of dance.
English
We are authors! Class 2 enjoyed editing and publishing their stories, proudly creating their very own books.
Geography
In geography, we are exploring the features of rivers. We were very fortunate to have a visit from the 'River and Canal Trust', who helped us to start the topic off in a fun and engaging way. The children were able to investigate the different features of a river and compare them to those of a canal. Some of the children were also able to dress up as Navvies!
Science
In Science, we have been exploring sound. We know that sound waves travel through the three states of matter — ask us what they are! We also discovered that sound travels as vibrations in waves. We had great fun experimenting with popcorn and drums to deepen our understanding.
Autumn 2
In English this term, Class 2 are learning to write their own instructions. This week we have focussed on creating a text map for our class instructions - 'How to Trap a Stone Giant'. The children then created their own actions to help them remember the text.
