School Uniform

School Uniform Policy
St. Peter's C of E Primary & Nursery School suggests that all pupils wear the school uniform to ensure equality. No child should be singled out for having 'better' or 'worse' clothes than another, and the wearing of a school uniform ensures this.

Our school uniform comprises of the following:

  • Navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan. Please note that plain navy blue jumpers, sweatshirts or cardigans are perfectly acceptable and are available from most supermarkets, Next or M&S etc.
  • Clothing with the school logo is available from Uniform Direct in Gainsborough.
  • Hoodies are not permitted as school uniform, although they may be worn for PE. Hoodies with the school logo are available from Uniform Direct and can also include embroidered initials which is always very useful.
  • White polo shirt, formal long or short sleeve shirt or blouse
  • Grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore dress
  • Shoes should be in a black, flat style for both boys and girls. As we have a 'shoe free' policy inside the school, children may wear trainer-style shoes provided they are completely black. We do encourage active-play at playtimes! Please avoid shoes that do not stay on the foot when running around.
  • Children are welcome to wear plimsolls or slippers in school. These can be left in school.
  • Socks or tights should be white, grey, blue or black. If socks are covered by trouser legs, a degree of flexibility is allowed.
  • In summer, blue and white gingham dresses may be worn, but these are optional.
  • Hair bands, grips and bobbles should be in school colours please - white and/or navy blue. Spot, check and stripe patterns are allowed provided they are white and navy blue. Please avoid over-sized hair accessories! Scarves only to be worn around the head or in the hair for medical or religious purposes.
  • No neck, wrist or ankle jewellery should be worn in school unless worn for religious purposes. In the case of pierced ears, ear-rings should be small, flat studs. These must be removed by your child for P.E. and swimming for reasons of health and safety. Members of the school staff are not allowed to remove or replace ear-rings.
  • Nail varnish or gel should not be worn in school. Parents will be asked to remove nail varnish / gel in the evening. If children continue to wear nail varnish to school despite being told to remove it, parents will be contacted by the head teacher. The cost cost of gel nails on a child is not a concern of the school.
  • It is requested that haircuts and styles be appropriate for school. Children should refrain from having their hair dyed unnatural colours or shaved into patterns. The school reserves the right to send a child home if their hair style is inappropriate for a primary school setting. Such choices are invariably the responsibility of parents rather than the child. Please be respectful of this request.

For P.E, children require:

  • Navy blue polo shirt. Clothing with the school logo on can be purchased from Uniform Direct in Gainsborough.
  • Navy blue shorts - NOT CYCLING SHORTS. Children WILL be asked to change into school-owned, appropriate style shorts, if they come to school in cycling shorts.
  • Trainers. Plimsolls do not offer sufficient support for the foot or ankle. Please be aware that fashion trainers are not necessarily suitable for PE lessons.
  • School jumper or navy blue hooded jumper or sweatshirt style jacket. School hoodies are available from Uniform Direct - includes school logo and embroidered initials (optional)
  • Blue tracksuits may be worn for outdoor P.E. lessons during cooler weather.
  • Navy blue leggings are allowed - not black. Children WILL be asked to change into school-owned, blue shorts or jogging bottoms, if they come to school in black clothing.

For swimming lessons, children require:

  • Swimming trunks (not shorts)
  • One-piece swimming costume (no bikinis or tankinis)
  • Towel
  • Ear-rings must be removed, not covered with plasters.
  • Please avoid sending children to school with hair products in their hair on swimming days e.g. hair gel, as it contaminates the water in the swimming pool.                                                                                                                              THESE ARE SCHOOL SWIMMING RULES AND WILL BE ENFORCED BY SCHOOL SWIMMING STAFF.

It is advised that on swimming days (Wednesday), children come to school with swimwear under their school uniform. Please remember to send underwear for after the swimming lesson.

One school swimming lesson costs £8.45. Please bear this is mind if you choose to allow your child to have their ears pierced and they are unable to swim.

Six weeks of non-attendance costs the school £50.70. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a considerable amount of money that could have been spent on something else.
