  • Class 2 (14 children) Dance Festival tomorrow

    Wed 13 Mar 2024 Y. Reeson

    Dear families,

I have been sent the following information about tomorrow from Retford Oaks:

    Information for parents

    • Each school has been allocated 15 tickets, this is one per child. I know they say the 7th March on but they are for the 14th.

    • Schools are not eligible to any additional tickets due to capacity, there is already approximately 220 students, staff and dance leaders in the hall before we even start the performance and therefore 12 schools are taking part so this is 180 tickets which takes me to capacity in the main hall so no extras.

    • No ticket=No entry, due to capacity constraints, if parents arrive without a ticket they will not be granted entry, nor can they ask for a school teacher to come and let them in.

    • Any parent who is rude or disrespectful to the Retford Oaks Admin team simply will not be granted entry even if they have a ticket. The admin team are simply following the instructions set out by me that are listed above.

    • Parents must park in the visitor car park and should not arrive before 1.45pm, if they arrive before this time they will not be able to access the building.

    • After the performance, parents will depart through the front of the building. If schools are allowing parents to take students straight home this needs to be done outside once schools have left, we unfortunately do not have the capacity for parents to wait for their children in reception.

    • Also this week ROA our fundraising to support Young Lives V Cancer in honour of our student Daisy who sadly passed away recently. There will be donation buckets on entry and exit to the performance and any support from parents, careers and staff would be greatly received so we would appreciate it if you could ask anyone attending to bring any spare change to support this cause.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD BRINGS A PACKED LUNCH AND A WATER BOTTLE.

I'VE DECIDED TO ASK THE CHILDREN TO COME TO SCHOOL IN BLACK LEGGINGS / TROUSERS AND THEIR PE TOP. WE WILL CHANGE INTO THE BLACK T-SHIRTS JUST BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE SO THAT PEOPLE AREN'T DANCING WITH LUNCH DOWN THEM! ;)

    Best wishes,

    Mrs Reeson

  • Factors that have a positive and negative impact on learning by John Hattie

    Tue 12 Mar 2024 Y.Reeson

Certain factors have a positive impact on a child's learning; some factors have a negative impact, and some factors have virtually no impact at all.

Please take a look at the chart below that was produced by John Hattie.

Professor John Hattie is a researcher in education. His research interests include performance indicators, models of measurement and evaluation of teaching and learning. John Hattie became known to a wider public with his two books Visible Learning and Visible Learning for teachers. Visible Learning is a synthesis of more than 800 meta-studies covering more than 80 million students.  According to John Hattie Visible Learning is the result of 15 years of research about what works best for learning in schools. The Times Educational Supplement once called him “possibly the world’s most influential education academic”.

I hope you find this information useful. I personally think it is intriguing and surprising in equal measure!

  • Roblox WARNING

    Thu 12 Apr 2018 Y.Reeson

Roblox is a popular online game aimed at children aged 8+ which gives users freedom to create their own games or play games which other users have created. Roblox also offers a chat facility.

A recent Net-aware survey found that 16% of children who reviewed Roblox found that the game was risky due to the ability to be able to:

    · Make In-app purchases
    · Ability to talk to strangers
    · People you don’t know adding you

Roblox does have its imaginative and creative side – it allows children to be creative and think about what they’d like to see in game development.

Although Roblox does have the ability to add privacy settings (pre-set under 12s), there are still risks surrounding the ability to add unknown users, limited control over strangers adding youngsters, bullying and of course, the ability to make in app purchases. These all carry their individual risks. For more information about Roblox, please visit our website here at: Include link to Roblox where you’ll find some really useful information about the app, learn how to add privacy settings and see what parents/carers and children think about the Roblox. • School Photographs on Social Media

    Wed 07 Mar 2018 Y. Reeson

    Newsletter : 8th March 2018
    Photographs on Social Media

    Dear parents & carers,

It has come to my attention that photographs taken at school events are included on certain parents’ Facebook pages.

It is the school policy that photographs of school events are not uploaded to social media in the interests of safeguarding ALL of our pupils. Unfortunately, many of the photographs that I saw included lots of other pupils from the school alongside the parents’ child(ren).

Not only is this a breach of the Home/School Agreement, it is utterly irresponsible behaviour. The school goes to great lengths to ensure that ALL our pupils are safe and at least one parent has put this at risk.

What is particularly disappointing is that before every single school event, I ask parents and carers not to share images on social media.

If you have photographs that have been taken at school events, that feature children other than your own, even if they are in the background, I would politely request that you remove them from your account.

Unfortunately, if this happens again or if existing photographs are not removed, I will have no other option than to ban the use of phones and iPads etc at school events. This would be both a great pity and completely unfair on those people who do show respect to fellow parents.

I am very sorry that I have had to send such a negative letter. Please forgive me but I have a responsibility to ensure the safeguarding of the pupils at St. Peter’s.

Thank you for your continued support.
    Yours sincerely,

    Yvonne Reeson - Head teacher
