  • Class 2 (14 children) Dance Festival tomorrow

    Wed 13 Mar 2024 Y. Reeson

    Dear families,

I have been sent the following information about tomorrow from Retford Oaks:

    Information for parents

    • Each school has been allocated 15 tickets, this is one per child. I know they say the 7th March on but they are for the 14th.

    • Schools are not eligible to any additional tickets due to capacity, there is already approximately 220 students, staff and dance leaders in the hall before we even start the performance and therefore 12 schools are taking part so this is 180 tickets which takes me to capacity in the main hall so no extras.

    • No ticket=No entry, due to capacity constraints, if parents arrive without a ticket they will not be granted entry, nor can they ask for a school teacher to come and let them in.

    • Any parent who is rude or disrespectful to the Retford Oaks Admin team simply will not be granted entry even if they have a ticket. The admin team are simply following the instructions set out by me that are listed above.

    • Parents must park in the visitor car park and should not arrive before 1.45pm, if they arrive before this time they will not be able to access the building.

    • After the performance, parents will depart through the front of the building. If schools are allowing parents to take students straight home this needs to be done outside once schools have left, we unfortunately do not have the capacity for parents to wait for their children in reception.

    • Also this week ROA our fundraising to support Young Lives V Cancer in honour of our student Daisy who sadly passed away recently. There will be donation buckets on entry and exit to the performance and any support from parents, careers and staff would be greatly received so we would appreciate it if you could ask anyone attending to bring any spare change to support this cause.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD BRINGS A PACKED LUNCH AND A WATER BOTTLE.

I'VE DECIDED TO ASK THE CHILDREN TO COME TO SCHOOL IN BLACK LEGGINGS / TROUSERS AND THEIR PE TOP. WE WILL CHANGE INTO THE BLACK T-SHIRTS JUST BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE SO THAT PEOPLE AREN'T DANCING WITH LUNCH DOWN THEM! ;)

    Best wishes,

    Mrs Reeson

  • Factors that have a positive and negative impact on learning by John Hattie

    Tue 12 Mar 2024 Y.Reeson

Certain factors have a positive impact on a child's learning; some factors have a negative impact, and some factors have virtually no impact at all.

Please take a look at the chart below that was produced by John Hattie.

Professor John Hattie is a researcher in education. His research interests include performance indicators, models of measurement and evaluation of teaching and learning. John Hattie became known to a wider public with his two books Visible Learning and Visible Learning for teachers. Visible Learning is a synthesis of more than 800 meta-studies covering more than 80 million students.  According to John Hattie Visible Learning is the result of 15 years of research about what works best for learning in schools. The Times Educational Supplement once called him “possibly the world’s most influential education academic”.

I hope you find this information useful. I personally think it is intriguing and surprising in equal measure!
